Job Requirements

The long-term goal of a job for me is to provide financially for my family, while still spending sufficient time with them as well as not doing something that feels like work to me.

This leads to the following requirements for the working conditions and the job itself.

Working conditions

The requirements for the working conditions are the following two. Both of them have to be fulfilled; otherwise I won't take the job:

1.1 It is in the city that I currently live in, a city I like, close to friends or family, or completely remote.

1.2 I can choose my working hours freely. It is not a problem if I go to the gym in the morning or during my lunch break, or pick up my kid from daycare at 4:30pm.

The job itself

The requirements for the job itself are the following three. At least one of them has to be fulfilled; otherwise I won't take the job:

2.1 I really enjoy the job itself. Not the theoretical job description, but what I actually do all day.

2.2 I earn enough to retire after 5–10 years of doing the job.

2.3 I learn a lot, so that I can find a job that fulfills 2.1 or 2.2.

If I know what I enjoy doing, and either working condition fails or none of the job requirements are fulfilled, I will look for another job.

If I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in the long term, I would think about it and maybe start by doing any job that sounds cool. If it fits, that's great. If not, at least I'd know what I don't want to do and could then look for another job. But even in that case, I would think about what exactly bothered me about the job and what I would like to do instead.
